Since 1994
History
Martin Old Electrical Supplies was established by Mr Martin Old in the year 1994 in East London, South Africa.
With this, Martin followed in his father's footsteps, RJD Old, who owned an electrical store in Patterson Street.
Martin opened his store around the corner from his father's old store; at 11 Lambart Road, Arcadia.
Success
In 1994 the Apartheid era had just come to an end and the city of East London, previously captured between the Ciskei and the Transkei, was now open for business.
Properties were erected everywhere; new houses and new businesses popped up as mushrooms and the electrical industry thrived. Foreign product suppliers lifted their ban on South Africa and the change in economy did Martin Old good.
Change
Martin enjoyed 3 years of successful business in the fast expanding city of East London.
In 1997, Martin immigrated and sold the store to three new partners: Mr Gerald Berlyn, Mr Clive Berlyn and Mr Jack Millar.
Jack was the active partner, running the shop at a day to day basis.
Evolution
In 2015, Jack retired and Mr Shaun Bayman took over his role as captain. Shaun brought in a breath of fresh air and upgraded the business to the 21st century.
In a time of economic insecurity, Martin Old managed to not only stay afloat, but even increase sales and grow in business, with the help of an exceptional team.
Expansion
Shortly after Shaun joined the company, he began to see opportunities for the company in other cities in the Eastern Cape.
In 2017, Martin Old took the plunge and expanded to Queenstown; 185 kilometres inland from East London.
